The Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) 2007 Section 18 stipulates that, in Hazardous areas, Class I locations secondary seals shall be provided between devices containing a primary seal and conduit-or cable seal of a device-where failure of a single component in the device containing the primary seal could allow passage of process fluids into the conduit.
We understand that this requirement is generally met by our devices. As such, we have already certified some of our products as Dual Seal devices at FM Approvals (see listing below). For further products, the passage of process fluid into the conduit is impossible due to their technical design (e.g. Memosens, no direct connection between field device and cable conduit), in which case, the requirement of CEC Section 18 does not apply.
For the other products listed below, Endress+Hauser will open a file at CSA to test compliance as single or dual seal devices according the ASME/ISA 12.27.01. Compliance will be achieved where possible, or as advised otherwise by CSA or a CEC variance.
